Curaçao is not an independent country, but rather an autonomous territory and a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Along with its neighboring island Aruba, it is one of the Dutch Caribbean islands that I have yet to explore. What struck me about Curaçao is its untarnished beauty compared to other Caribbean destinations I have visited. The island has a distinct charm, which may be attributed, in part, to its larger presence of European tourists rather than American visitors. The vibrant and colorful buildings that dot the landscape immediately catch your eye in Curaçao. While the beaches are undeniably stunning, I found joy in exploring the island’s history and cultural heritage. One particular highlight was my visit to the synagogue, known as the oldest in North America, with its unique feature of a sand floor.
