Before developing my passion for travel, I embarked on a journey to Cancun. I found myself captivated by the multitude of American tourists who flocked to the impressive beachfront resorts. The vibrant bar scene and breathtaking beaches left a lasting impression on me. With its all-inclusive and affordable options, it’s no wonder that Cancun is the most popular international destination for Americans. It almost feels like the Caribbean’s version of Las Vegas.
Since relocating to San Diego, Mexico has held a special place in my heart, given its proximity to Tijuana as a border town. I have had the opportunity to explore the country extensively, from Tijuana to Ensenada, Monterrey to Mexico City, Guadalajara to Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta to Oaxaca. Out of all these places, I must admit that Cancun ranks the lowest in terms of my preference. Despite that, I still adore Mexican culture, cuisine, affordability, and accessibility, along with the convenience of having quick access to the TIJ airport, which facilitates easy travel within Mexico.
Mexico sometimes receives an unjust reputation for being dangerous, but this perception applies to many countries. Like anywhere else, it is essential to exercise caution, be aware of your surroundings, and make smart choices in terms of your destinations and travel methods. I have never experienced a strong sense of danger in Mexico, even during my frequent visits to Tijuana. The ability to drive to Tijuana for dinner and return home safely brings me immense joy.
I intend to continue exploring Mexico, with destinations like Puebla, Hermosillo, Tecate, Merida, and many more on my list. Improving my Spanish-speaking skills is a priority, although I am grateful to live in a world where Google Translate is readily available.
