Traveling internationally can be a stressful experience, especially when navigating airport procedures. However, Global Entry has revolutionized re-entry into the US, making it one of the simplest parts of airport navigation. This article explores how Global Entry streamlines the process, the benefits it offers, and tips on overcoming initial barriers. Additionally, we will delve into the lounge options at Miami Airport, providing insights to enhance your travel experience.
Global Entry: Simplifying Re-Entry to the US
Returning to the US has become one of the easiest parts of airport navigation thanks to Global Entry. The process continues to improve and is now at the point where you do not need to answer any questions, touch anything, or even take your passport out.
The Seamless Process
You simply walk up to a kiosk where your picture is taken and then wait 30 seconds or so for your name to be called and you’re through. It is arguable after to go through US immigrations with Global Entry than it is to check in for your flight online.
The Benefits of Global Entry
Walking past the huge line in Miami Immigrations, I am simply amazed that more people do not get Global Entry. Sure, there is a cost of $150 every 5 years, but there are many credit cards that will reimburse you for that expense.
Credit Card Perks
I currently have 4 cards that do, which is enough to cover the cost for my entire family.
Overcoming Initial Barriers
The other barrier to entry is dealing with the initial interview which can be tedious given how long it can take to get the reservation. There are tricks to expediting that process like walk-ins when traveling and alerting systems to let you know when reservations open. Even if I only traveled internationally once per year, I would still say this is worth it.
Lounge Options at Miami Airport
Preparing for the Wait
With an hour until boarding in Miami airport, I was prepared with my lounge options. I had two viable options in the D concourse, the Amex Centurion Lounge and the Corona Beach Restaurant which is accessible with certain Priority Pass cards.
The Centurion Lounge Experience
I started at the Centurion Lounge knowing that there is often a wait, and sure enough it was 45 minutes. Amex lounges are becoming less valuable every day with their limited space. I would say that over the past two years, I have had to get on a waitlist to enter more than half of the time.
To-Go Options at the Lounge
In this instance however, they were offering to-go boxed meals to those that did not want to wait, which was the first time I have seen this and was perfect for me.
The Corona Beach House Option
I took the to-go box for the plane and then headed to the Corona Beach House to spend my $30 credit on a salmon salad and a drink before getting to my boarding gate just as they began the boarding process.
Smooth Airport Experience
It feels great when things work out smoothly at airports.
Conclusion
Global Entry significantly eases the process of re-entering the US, making it a valuable tool for frequent international travelers. Despite the initial hurdles, the benefits, including time saved and reduced stress, make it worthwhile. Coupled with strategic use of airport lounges, your travel experience can be significantly enhanced. Whether it’s bypassing long immigration lines or enjoying a relaxing meal before your flight, these travel tips ensure smoother and more enjoyable journeys.
